Florals for textiles at Dobbin Mews

Such a talented bunch of ladies took my class a few weeks ago, it was a pleasure painting and chatting with everyone. The event was held at the studio of my gracious friends and colleagues, Nicolette Owen and Fay Andrada, who are based across the way from my own studio space, at Dobbin Mews.
A mix. My painting and real flowers from the class
Below are a few of the photos taken by Dana, who writes about the day over on her blog, I hope you'll go take a look!

Special gifts

Absolutely loving the work of friend, Re Jin Lee of Bailey Doesn't Bark. I've already snuck into her studio and bought a ring holder or two.
The pieces are just so beautiful they make the best gifts -- if you can bare to part with the goods yourself.

There is a lovely piece on this talented lady here.

MY CLASS AT THE TEXTILE ARTS CENTER- MANHATTAN

I taught my first class at TAC (an introduction to florals in textile design),  at the start of the month. It was such a great experience, with a wonderful group of people in a really fantastic space. Here are a few snaps of the day, photographed by lovely Nicolette.

Figured I'd dress the part!

I look forward to adding more floral-painting classes, both at TAC and with my continuing classes at the studio.

Fiber Art

I've not always been a fan of fiber art. My early run-ins with 'crafty art' included raffia owls with giant, wooden-bead eyes (child of the 70's), neon felted hats/gloves (sunday village fairs) and crocheted cardigans in pastel colors (thanks nan). So as a rule, I've always steered well clear of anything too hand-made looking.
However. The last few years have been pretty epic in terms of exciting moves in the textile and fiber realms. I am a convert, I want a rug on my wall and weaves where paintings usually hang. Here are some examples of the tactile lovelies I am swooning over currently.

The Brick house isn't shy around a giant piece of fiber. Love it.

Really looking forward to teaching my floral painting class this weekend, at the Textile Arts Center in Manhattan! It's all about the blooms at the moment, here are a few things I'm inspired by and a few shots from the studio.
Can't wait to meet those of you who have signed up!
